ATLANTA, GA — Police say they found the body of a woman who had apparently been beaten near a charter school in Atlanta on Wednesday morning. The body was found after the woman’s boyfriend used a smartphone app to trace her to a trail near Atlanta Heights Charter School.
The woman’s family had reported her missing on Tuesday. The boyfriend had gone to the area near 3712 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in southwest Atlanta and found her clothing on a dirt trail at about 2:40 a.m., according to Atlanta Police Department spokesman Officer Donald Hannah.
There, he flagged down a uniformed police officer, Hannah said.
A team with police dogs was called in and a search of the woods found the woman’s body just feet from the school and behind an apartment complex. Her name had not been released publicly as of Wednesday morning.
Her body had signs of blunt force trauma, Hannah said in an email.
"Our Homicide Unit is working to gather and explore all possible leads," Hannah said.
